Maury Povich is sharing a look at how he enjoys his summers.
The former talk show host and podcaster, 87, shared a video on Instagram where he gave fans a glimpse at his life in the Northwest, trading New York City for fresh mountain air.
“There are a lot of people who ask me from time to time, ‘So what are you doing this summer?’ Well, for the last 30 years, we’ve come to Montana — the great State of Montana, the Big Sky country,” he shared.
“We are not newbies, like a lot of people, during COVID, who came here. They wanted to get out of the big city. They wanted a new kind of life. We’ve been living here for the last 30 years, about four or five months of the year, and it’s great! We’re in Northwest Montana, in Flathead Valley. We’re about 40 minutes from what I happen to think is the most beautiful park there is in the country, Glacier National Park, and we live here in the mountains. We kind of like that,” he continued.
Povich paused to introduce his dog, Taxi, who was “swimming in ponds, so she’s a little tired.”
He continued, “We’re here about four and a half, five months a year. We love it. Our kids love it. So this is just to give you a little idea of how I spend my life in the summer, along with my family. See ya!”
The daytime television legend previously shared a little bit about his life in Montana earlier this year, when he chatted with USA Today about his golden retriever, explaining that it was his home in Montana that began his love for the breed.
“We spent a lot of time at our place in Montana about 15 years ago. The caretakers came to the front door and had this little puppy and said, ‘I think it’s time for you to get a pet now that the kids are out of the house,’ ” he recalled.

When they asked what he might name the puppy, he decided on Birdie, explaining, “I”m an addicted golfer… on the golf course, when you have birdies on the golf course, everybody’s smiling.”
It was during Birdie’s last year of life that the couple got Taxi, who enjoys splitting her time between the city and the mountains. “We stay in Montana four or five months a year and the dog never sees a leash. She just runs all around my house and swims in the ponds, does anything she wants to,” Povich shared.
Birdie gets together with Povich’s son’s three dogs and the grounds’ caretakers’ three dogs. As a whole, the seven dogs “are all just running all around. We have dinner and the dogs are just running around, playing with each other and biting on each other’s necks,” according to the star.
