McMurry University’s Theatre Department will present Moonlight and Magnolias Nov. 20–22 at the Ryan Little Theatre, offering audiences a behind-the-scenes look at the frantic rewriting of one of Hollywood’s most enduring films.
Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. each night.
The play recounts the true-to-life chaos behind the 1939 production of Gone With the Wind. With the film in trouble and its screenplay falling flat, producer David O. Selznick makes a drastic decision: he shuts down filming, locks himself in his office with screenwriter Ben Hecht and director Victor Fleming, and refuses to let anyone leave until they salvage the script.
What follows is a five-day marathon fueled by clashing egos, a ticking clock and a steady diet of bananas and peanuts. The comedy highlights both the absurdity and the artistry of filmmaking under pressure, capturing the high stakes surrounding one of the most iconic movies in American cinema.
Tickets are available at the McMurry Theatre box office or online at the production’s ticketing page.
