Cardi B’s road to her sophomore album has been long, and she’s extra determined to ensure it makes a big spash upon its arrival on Sept. 19. The Bronx rapper is taking it back to the basics by heading out on a run of meet and greets across the country. Announced today (Sept. 10), she shared details about the upcoming in-store appearances and in true Cardi fashion, she made sure her signature sense of humor was represented as well.
“Due to the ‘Imaginary Playerz’ music video, Atlantic Records has done some deductions to my album’s budget,” she said in a video posted to her social media accounts. After jokingly revealing she has only $50 left to help promote Am I The Drama?, she said she’s heading out on the road to “sell these CDs and vinyls myself” or else she might “get sent back to the strip club.”
“So, I’m here to tell you that I might be coming to your city next week, starting Friday,” she announced before revealing the lineup of “most wonderful, most grateful” cities she will be traveling to.
How do fans get to go and meet the “WAP” rapper? Per the announcement details, attendees must sign up and purchase a ticket on https://instores.cardib.com/. Each store location will have a list of specific rules to follow for each process, which are currently available on the site. The mother of three will be taking photos with fans at each location, and each attendee must purchase a CD or vinyl from the website of the store hosting the event. Purchasing the CD from another retailer will not allow access into the meet and greet.
The cities and their corresponding dates are as follows:
Long Island, NY, on Sept. 19
Easton PA, on Sept. 20
New York, NY, on Sept 21
Atlanta, GA, on Sept. 22
Houston, TX, on Sept. 23
Long Beach, CA, on Sept. 25
The marketing move drew excitement and praise from fans, who commended Cardi B and her team for leaning back on a more “traditional” method of promoting her album. “I love when an artist realizes they’ve been away for long and takes time to reconnect,” one person wrote on X. Another user added, “This rollout has been amazing and she’s not sitting behind just visuals expecting the album to sell itself. I respect the hustle.”
On Instagram, someone echoed, “Most of these girls should take notes cuz the way cardi is promoting this album >>” as another person typed, “This is how people used to promote albums, and a lot of them still do, it’s a great way to interact with fans and create a real bond.”
Am I The Drama? is the follow-up to Cardi’s massively successful debut album, 2018’s Invasion Of Privacy. She has shared singles from the project like “Imaginary Playerz” and “Outside,” along with previously released hits like “Up” and “WAP.”
