Megadeth have revealed the track listing for their self-titled final album, and along with the 10 new tracks, the album also includes a bonus track: a “reimagined” version of “Ride The Lightning,” the title track of Metallica’s second album, which every fan worth their salt knows Megadeth founder and frontman Dave Mustaine co-wrote with Metallica’s James Hetfield, Cliff Burton, and Lars Ulrich when he was a member of the band.
“Megadeth” is due January 23, 2026, on Mustaine’s Tradecraft label in partnership with Frontiers Label Group’s new BLKIIBLK imprint.
“As I come full circle on the career of a lifetime, the decision to include ‘Ride The Lightning,’ a song I co-wrote with James, Lars, and Cliff, was to pay my respects to where my career first started,” Mustaine said in the announcement.
Mustaine was a member of Metallica’s first lineup and played with the band from late 1981 though March of 1983, when he was replaced by Kirk Hammett, who remains the group’s lead guitarist. Mustaine soon formed Megadeth and has been the band’s only constant member.
He announced in August that Megadeth’s forthcoming album and 2026 tour will be their last (for more check here).
In the announcement, Mustaine wrote in part, “We have done something together that’s truly wonderful and will probably never happen again,” he concludes. “We started a musical style, we started a revolution, we changed the guitar world and how it’s played, and we changed the world. The bands I played in have influenced the world. I love you all for it. Thank you for everything.”
