Meghan Markle and Prince Harry could be celebrating as the duo secures an extension with the streaming powerhouse.
The Sussexes’ fresh agreement is reportedly worth less than their original contract and is characterized as a “first-look” deal that provides Netflix the initial option to decline Sussex productions.
A public relations specialist commented on their renewed partnership and indicated that Netflix’s future depends on their ability to deliver results.
In 2020, following their departure from active royal duties, the Sussexes inked a $100 million agreement with the streaming service.
This resulted in multiple productions, including the wildly popular documentary Harry & Meghan, a polo program, an,d most recently, Meghan’s culinary show With Love, Meghan.
Edward added: “The biggest challenge for Meghan, even solo, is the public perception of her and Harry as a package deal. The joint brand is the problem.
“You can’t separate Harry from the military and his passion projects, and you can’t separate Meghan from Hollywood and her passion projects. When they are together, it’s a conflict of interest that confuses the public and provides an easy target for criticism.”
He suggested that the couple should shift their focus away from joint ventures and concentrate more on their individual projects.
“From a PR standpoint, keeping their brands separate, as they have been doing lately, creates clearer storylines for audiences,” he elaborated.
“It allows them to move away from the royal drama narrative and build legacies based on their work with veterans (Harry) and their entrepreneurial/philanthropic ventures (Meghan).If they succeed with this new, more focused approach, they can finally shake the ‘expensive failure’ label.”
Insiders reveal that Netflix executives don’t feel they’ve received value for money from the Sussexes and are seemingly embarrassed to disclose this fact, reportedly labeling the deal an “expensive failure”.
