Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been trying to figure things out in their post-royal life, especially when it comes to work. For the Duchess of Sussex, the hustle was a way of life in her former acting career. For the Duke of Sussex? Well, that might be a different story.
It sounds like Meghan wants Harry to get some steady work to keep “the money flowing,” according to Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice Substack.

“Meghan finally told Harry he needs to step up financially,” a Sussex insider shared. “She’s driving the business deals, managing the brand, and thinking about the future.
Meghan understands how to book that next job, while “Harry still approaches life like a royal” because he “wants purpose-driven work.” Given the cost of their private security, life is expensive for the Sussexes. And right now, it sounds like the Duchess of Sussex is carrying the load.
“She wants a partner who shares the responsibility and helps build the next chapter financially,” the source added while noting their marriage is on solid ground.
The royal couple still has money coming in from Meghan’s As Ever business and their deal with Netflix, which is still active despite critics constantly hoping for its failure. They are currently adapting the book No Way Out for the screen, per the BBC. The true story is about the British military under siege during the Afghanistan War, and it’s a project dear to Harry’s heart as a veteran of the conflict.
There have been plenty of conversations about the Sussexes’ financial status now that they no longer work for the palace. But, they are doing fine. Celebrity Net Worth estimates his fortune at around $60 million, but the steady flow of income is likely what Meghan is focusing on. And in July 2025, a U.S. Sun source divulged that Harry and Meghan were “being smart with their money.”
They own a home in Montecito, and invested in a property in Portugal that could offer then rental income in the future. The shape of the Netflix deal may have changed, but they are still in business with the streaming network. They also have the ability to take lucrative speaking engagements like their recent trip to Australia.
Their life looks different from their days at the palace, and they have to work harder for their money, but the Sussexes are paying their bills.
