Meghan Markle might have known she wasn’t meant to be a royal.
According to author Hugo Vickers, the Duchess of Sussex was aware she wanted to get herself and Prince Harry out of England long before their exit from The Firm in 2020.
While appearing on “The Royalist” podcast, the expert claimed Meghan had a “little plan” to leave the monarchy.
However, the couple’s departure while Queen Elizabeth II was alive wasn’t ideal.
“The only thing which surprised me — because I never thought that she would stay forever — was that she did it in the Queen’s reign, in the Queen’s lifetime. Because I thought that was not going to happen,” Vickers said.
According to royal biographer Robert Hardman, the late leader of England was devastated by the departure of her grandson and his wife.
“As far as the Queen was concerned, Harry and Meghan had everything handed to them but wanted to throw it all away,” the writer told The Telegraph.

“She was enormously upset and terribly sad about a wasted opportunity, but she acted decisively,” he claimed.
In Hardman’s book Elizabeth II: In Private. In Public. Her Story, the journalist alleged Elizabeth was more than willing to help Meghan adjust to life within The Firm.
“She [Elizabeth] was keen for Meghan to learn the royal ropes,” Hardman wrote in a passage obtained by Daily Mail.
“The Queen was really wanting to give it a go,” a source told the reporter. “She was so sweet, she had brought Meghan a present and tried so hard.”
