Meghan Markle has been likened to Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, who reportedly possessed “Meghanish” characteristics.
Carolyn, who perished with her husband, John F. Kennedy Jr. , in a 1999 plane crash, had previously entered America’s “Camelot” – while Meghan officially became part of the British Royal Family in 2018.
In celebrity.land’s new docuseries America’s Prince, Royal expert and former Vanity Fair editor Tina Brown stated, “As we’ve seen with Meghan and Harry, there was quite a lot about Carolyn that was a bit ‘Meghanish.’
Brown explained in the program, “[Carolyn] had…wanted in, for all of these reasons. There was glamour and elegance. But that came with so much pressure in terms of… the monster of the media… that she fell apart really.”
Addressing Brown’s remarks, British broadcaster Helena Chard recently declared, “Tina’s words are a warning to Meghan.”
Meghan and Prince Harry relinquished their roles as senior working royals in 2018, less than two years after the couple exchanged vows in Windsor. The duo had previously blamed the relentless intrusions of the British media for their departure, along with insufficient backing from the Royal institution.
After Meghan and Harry’s sat down with Oprah for a bombshell interview in March 2021, former Real Housewives of New York star Carole Radziwill also weighed in on the parallels between Carolyn and Meghan.
She posted on X at the time, “I just watched the M&H sit down. Wow. I love how people say Meghan knew what she was getting into… people said the same thing about Carolyn Bessette when she married into the Kennedy family. You could never know. Meghan said it right, the perception is nothing like the reality.”
