Meghan Markle was “clearly” trying to send a message through her flurry of posts on her eighth wedding anniversary to Prince Harry, according to a PR expert.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex tied the knot on May 19, 2018, in Windsor, England. On Tuesday, May 19, Meghan celebrated her marriage with multiple Instagram posts. In the early morning hours, the Duchess of Sussex shared 24 never-before-seen photographs from the wedding ceremony and reception at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.
The Duke of Sussex also presented Meghan with a sculpture of two penguins, a nod to the time when they dressed as a pair of penguins for a party following their engagement.
Meghan’s posts drew substantial criticism from people online. Now, a PR expert has suggested Meghan’s intensive posting was an intentional strategy designed to deliver a specific message.
Nick Ede, a Brand and Culture expert, told the Express, “I think Meghan’s anniversary posting spree was clearly designed to humanise her brand and reconnect with audiences on a more intimate, emotional level.”
He continued, “I do think she was trying to communicate a message. The posts seemed intended to say: ‘We’re happy and deeply in love despite everything that’s been written about us.’
“Family content is incredibly powerful online because it creates emotional engagement, but it’s also risky when you’ve previously spoken publicly about privacy and protecting children from media exposure.”
Last Sunday, May 17, in Geneva, Switzerland, the Duchess of Sussex delivered an impassioned address at a memorial service, calling on international health officials to take action in safeguarding children online. She emphasized that young people are being shaped by systems “designed to capture attention at any cost.”
The Lost Screen Memorial unveiling featured a striking installation of 50 illuminated lightboxes, each displaying the mobile phone lockscreen image of a child who died by suicide because of online violence and digital harm.
The event was jointly organized by the WHO and Archewell Philanthropies, the charitable foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, in advance of the 79th World Health Assembly.
It was additionally coordinated alongside The Parents’ Network, a group of grieving families campaigning for enhanced digital safety measures for children and adolescents.
