A royal commentator has suggested Meghan Markle could one day “bear the brunt” of what could be a “sad” situation for her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Even though they remain sixth and seventh in line to the throne, the two Sussex children have spent almost no time in the UK.
Despite concerns about privacy and security, Prince Harry has made it clear that he would like his children to understand their heritage and see the type of life he grew up with. An insider subsequently told royal author Tom Quinn: “Meghan does miss some aspects of life in the UK and worries that her children will blame her if they never get to see their cousins and feel as adults that they have been deprived of what might have been a fun and meaningful existence in the UK.”
This is a possibility that former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond described as “a legitimate point”. Speaking to the Mirror, Ms Bond said: “Children grow up and are innately curious about their heritage and background… and when your heritage is one of the most famous families in the world, it will undoubtedly seem rather odd and perhaps sad that you hardly know or remember them.
“Imagine Archie, aged 15, telling his friends, ‘My grandpa is/was King! And my Uncle is/will be King too.’ But he hardly knew or met them. How sad… and Meghan would have to bear the brunt of the responsibility for that.”
Even though Archie and Lilibet have spent very little time in the UK, after their father’s most recent visit, he was enthusiastic about his family’s future.
During an interview on his way to Ukraine after he spent time in the UK, Harry told The Guardian: “Yes, I have enjoyed the week. I have always loved the UK, and I always will love the UK. It’s been good to reconnect with the causes I am passionate about. I have been able to spend some time with people that I have known for so long. It is hard to do it from far away.”
During his solo visit, Harry was also able to make time to visit his father King Charles at Clarence House in London on September 10. After revealing his true feelings about the UK, Harry also said that he may be one step closer to bringing Archie and Lilibet back to the UK.
The youngsters last visited the UK to celebrate the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022. Asked if he would bring his children to the UK, Harry said: “Yes I would. This week has definitely brought that closer.”
