Meghan Markle’s holiday promotion of her As Ever collection has left Royal followers underwhelmed by the neutral color scheme, following a recent video post on social media.
The Duchess of Sussex was featured in a new video posted over the weekend by her brand on Instagram.
Dressed in an olive green outfit, Meghan is seen cheerfully placing a gift into a beige stocking hanging from a fireplace before clasping her hands together and looking away.
The brief video, filmed with a sepia tone, offered glimpses of the room’s interior, which seemed to be decorated in shades of brown, beige, and green against a backdrop of twinkling fairy lights.
However, Royal enthusiasts were not taken with Meghan’s subdued color palette for the holiday season and took to social media to voice their opinions.
Another person commented: “Nothing screams festive holiday and celebration like BEIGE!! One would think that after she felt compelled by the Royal Family to wear only beige, that it would be the one color she would avoid after her.”
A fifth user added: “The holidays are supposed to be colorful and bright lights full of cheer and excitement and laughter from the children.”
A sixth one joked: “There she is, the woman finally free to wear bright colors!”.
The Duchess previously explained she deliberately chose subdued clothing during her time as a working Royal to avoid overshadowing senior family members.
She said in her and Harry’s Netflix docuseries: “There was thought in that [wearing neutrals]. To my understanding, you can’t ever wear the same colour as Her Majesty if there’s a group event. However, you should also avoid wearing the same colour as one of the other, more senior members of the family.
“So I was like…well, what’s a colour they’ll probably never wear? Camel? Beige? White? So I wore a lot of muted tones but it was also so I could just blend in. I’m not trying to stand out here. There’s no version of me joining this family and trying not to do everything I could to fit in.”
Meghan’s Christmas special on Netflix is set to premiere on December 3.
