Meghan Markle’s future in reality TV could be at risk if she doesn’t secure a Hollywood bigwig for her forthcoming Christmas special, a Royal commentator cautions.
The Duchess of Sussex’s newest Netflix project – With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration– is slated to premiere on Wednesday, December 3, just two days before Kate Middleton’s annual Together at Christmas event at Westminster Abbey.
Richard Fitzwilliams, former editor of the International Who’s Who, suggests that 44-year-old Meghan needs to significantly elevate her game following the tepid response to the first two seasons of With Love, if she aims to solidify her As Ever lifestyle brand and television career.
The debut season debuted in the Netflix Global Top 10 for TV shows upon its March release, ranking as the 389th most-watched show during the first half of 2025.
However, the second season didn’t make it into the Top 10. Speaking to The Mirror, he said: “She has not made a great success of With Love so far,” adding, “so her Christmas show is a test because if she doesn’t get an A-lister for it, it’s doomed.”
Richard told us that he thinks one of Meghan’s biggest hurdles is her struggle to “can’t break into the A-list” scene. Her recent trip to Paris for the Balenciaga fashion show demonstrated her attempts to address this challenge, he noted.
“It made perfect sense, because there she was with Anna Wintour, with Anne Hathaway and with Baz Luhrmann,” he remarked. “It was a very high-profile event, and there’s nothing wrong with attending an event of that sort.
“But if you look at all her podcasts and her Netflix episodes, you do not find well-known names. As far as I can see, she has got one A-list friend, Serena Williams, who she has been friends with for a long time, but she hasn’t got A-list backing in Hollywood.”
Meanwhile, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, both aged 43, are preparing to film the Princess of Wales’s Together at Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey this Friday. The fifth annual event features an impressive lineup of confirmed guests, including Kate Winslet, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Hannah Waddingham, as well as Prince William, who will deliver festive readings to an audience of fellow royals and charity representatives from various causes connected to the Royal household.
The chosen theme is “the power of love and togetherness”, selected by organizers who feel that “in a world that can often feel fragmented and disconnected, love is the force that reconnects us all”.
Kensington Palace issued a statement declaring, “This year, the Service will bring people together to celebrate love in all its forms – whether it’s love within families, through friendships, across communities, or even through powerful moments of connection with strangers.”
The statement continued, “This year, Her Royal Highness wanted to recognize and thank the many people around the country who are acting with love in their communities, contributing to a more cohesive and connected society.”
Prince William is scheduled to present a reading to the 1,600-strong congregation, while musical performances will be provided by Nine Million Bicycles singer/songwriter Katie Melua, Cornish folk band Fisherman’s Friends, and rising star Griff.
With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration arrives December 3.
