Buckingham Palace made no secret that Sunshine Sachs was working with the Sussexes and was being paid privately.
In 2020, after the couple had announced their plan to step back from royal duties, they hired the agency to try to improve their public image. Ken Sunshine, the Manhattan-based founder of the company, was said to be their chief adviser.
However, by 2022, they had built their own team and chose to work solely with their own internal staff, hiring a succession of executives. But it has proved to be a revolving door as each has left after a relatively short tenure.
Sunshine Sachs was once accused of employing “bare knuckle” tactics to defend disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein on social media. He denied the accusations.
The PR firm’s client list has also included Leonardo DiCaprio, Natalie Portman, Bette Midler, Barbra Streisand, Jennifer Lopez and Michael Jackson’s family.
