For nearly forty years Melissa Reeves has entertained viewers on and off screen as Jennifer Rose Horton, now Deveraux, on Days of Our Lives, and the actress has teased an upcoming special moment she will treasure forever.
The actress was recently interviewed by Swooon, along with Matthew Ashford, discussing her supercouple pairing of Jack and Jennifer.
During the discussion, Reeves revealed that she was presented with an unexpected gift while filming episodes for the show. “We actually shot a show, which I didn’t know they were doing.” “And at the end, in a chyron it says ‘Happy 40th anniversary Melissa Reeves.’ I was just excited because they were showing so many flashbacks. So, I had less lines to learn. I was like, ‘this is great. I love flashbacks.’ Then I thought, ‘oh my goodness, this is literally my life.’
Reeves shared fans won’t have to wait long to see the moment unfold, “We filmed it so that it will air in September 2025, when I started September 1985, and I just thought that was so kind that they even thought of that.”
Reeves first appeared on screen as Jennifer Rose Horton on October 9, 1985, as the character was reintroduced as a teenager.
Reeves reminisced about her thoughts joining the show in 1985, the actress shared, “this was just a show I thought. You sign a three-year contract. But they’re like ‘don’t get too comfortable’ because that means every 13 weeks they can let you go. So, you’re never 100% sure how long you’re going to be there.”
But just like that forty years go by, and the actress continues to play the part, off and on, and be a part of television history.
“Ken Corday has literally like made me his child and gave me a life and gave me my family and everything. It was the most beautiful, unexpected blessing of my life.”
What’s to come for Jennifer?
Reeves and Ashford will continue to air throughout the year as the characters will take part in the series 60th anniversary which will be marked by a huge gala event.
The soap previously previewed the gala. Jennifer is seen saying, “With the opening of the Dr. Tom Horton free clinic my grandfather’s legacy will continue to serve the community.” Meanwhile we see the return of Jack Deveraux, Mike Horton, Marie Horton, and Will Horton.
Reeves as previously mentioned joined Days of Our Lives in 1985, after being an integral part of the first year of Santa Barbara in 1984. Since joining Days, Reeves has portrayed the role off and on for forty years and continues to be a vital part to the shows storytelling.
Parade reached out for comment on when the special episode would air, but has not heard back as of publication.
