Melvin Robert to Join Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles as Guest Artist

Melvin Robert is in sync with the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles.

The media personality, who serves as an entertainment anchor on KTLA’s popular morning news show, has been tapped to serve as a guest artist for GMCLA’s spring concert, And The Beat Goes On. He joins previously announced guest soprano Nicole Heaston for the two-concert event at Beverly Hills’ Saban Theatre on March 21-22.

The outing will mark a reunion for Robert. He served as a member of GMCLA from 2013-2018, during which time he showed off his talents beyond the screen by singing and dancing, longtime passions for the born and bred Los Angeles native.

Under the direction of music director and conductor Ernest H. Harrison, GMCLA, which is comprised of 200 members, will tackle And The Beat Goes On. The concert is being curated with a mix of gospel, R&B, Motown and Broadway classics, with hits from the likes of Stevie Wonder, the Temptations, Gladys Knight, Dreamgirls, The Wiz and more.

For his part, Robert said he’s so excited to be “returning home” with GMCLA for this guest outing.

“The Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles has played such a pivotal role in my life,” he said. “It gave me the wings to fly. That’s the power of the experience and the music — it transforms, it inspires, it heals.”

Added Lou Spisto, executive director and producer: “I am truly delighted that GMCLA alum and my dear friend, Melvin Robert, is joining the chorus as guest soloist for these concerts. Before his rise to fame as a television journalist, I knew Melvin as a powerhouse musical theater performer with great vocals and the ability to tell a story through song. He now tells wonderful stories to a larger audience every day, and I’m so glad he agreed to come back home to our stage.”

Robert’s resume includes work as an actor, singer, producer and Emmy Award–winning host. Prior to KTLA 5, he co-anchored Good Day LA and served as a senior correspondent and weekend host on , with additional appearances as a special correspondent on The Jennifer Hudson Show. Robert was part of the original talent team that launched Spectrum News 1 SoCal for which he co-anchored Your Morning on Spectrum News 1. He also hosted the arts and culture magazine show The SoCal Scene. Robert earned a broadcast journalist of the year trophy from the L.A. Press Club in 2022.

The graduate of Loyola High School of Los Angeles and Loyola Marymount University has been seen onscreen in The Young & the Restless, Hacks, LA’s Finest, The Fix and Why Him?, and on stage in Rent, Miss Saigon, West Side Story, The Wizard of Oz, The Bayou Legend, Alex in Wonderland and Karishma.
