Michael Caine is ending his retirement at 92 years old to revive one of his most iconic roles.
The Academy Award-winning actor left his fans in dismay when he announced his retirement two years ago.
Now, in a surprising twist, Michael is expected to return to Hollywood for the highly-anticipated sequel of The Last Witch Hunter.
According to Variety, Lionsgate and Vin Diersel’s production company One Race Films is in the process of fast-tracking development.
Aside from the Fast & Furious actor set to once again lead the film, no casting deals have been finalized, including Michael’s.
Within the first movie, the actor played Father Dolan, also known as the 36th Dolan. He was a trusted priest and mentor to Kaulder, the main character played by Vin.
The film’s synopsis on Netflix reads, “When a powerful coven aims to unleash a deadly plague on New York, an immortal witch hunter, a priest and a young witch must thwart the lethal plan.”
Vin and Michael were joined on screen in 2015 by Rose Leslie, Elijah Wood and Julie Engelbrecht. While there are rumors about Michael’s involvement in the sequel, there has been no word about the rest of the original cast reprising their roles.
The Last Witch Hunter originally started out as a passion project for Vin, who previously advertised it as his own Dungeons & Dragons campaigns.
Although the film earned just $27 million at the North American box office, it found significantly greater success internationally and on streaming platforms. This year, it ranked among the most-watched movies on Netflix.

The news of the sequel comes two years after Michael retired from acting, 57 years after he made his Hollywood debut in the comedy film Gambit. Over his career, Michael has starred in hit films like Interstellar, The Dark Knight, and Miss Congeniality.
His announcement came after the release of his war film The Great Escaper, in which he played the lead.
While speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Today about the movie, he said. “I kept saying I’m going to retire. Well, I am now. Because I’ve figured, I’ve had a picture [where] I’ve played the lead and it’s got incredible reviews.”
He added, “The only parts I’m liable to get now are old men, 90-year-old men. Or maybe 85. I thought, I might as well leave with all this. I’ve got wonderful reviews. What am I gonna do to beat this?”
