Michael Douglas, who owns four homes, raised eyebrows with a birthday message that left fans puzzled.
The 81-year-old actor posted a tribute to his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, 56, on Instagram Monday, referring to her as his “birthday sister.”
The couple, who have been married for nearly 25 years, share the same birthday, September 25, but were born a quarter-century apart.
“To my birthday sister,” Douglas wrote.
“What a joy celebrating another year with you! Congratulations on your spectacular game at the Celebrity Ryder Cup. Happy birthday to the love of my life @CatherineZetaJones.”
She also posted her own tribute, sharing a carousel of vintage photos.
“Happy birthday Michael! Sharing this special day with you is once in a lifetime!” she wrote.
On Instagram Stories, she shared a PDA-filled photo collage of the couple over the years.
Another post featured a glam selfie with the caption “the night before my birthday.”
Despite some confusion over Douglas’s choice of words, others praised the sweet message.
Actress Octavia Spencer commented, “Well that’s just d*** cute. Same birthdays. Happy birthday!”
Douglas and Zeta-Jones met in 1998 at the Deauville Film Festival. He later said he knew she was “the one” after seeing her in The Mask of Zorro.
They got engaged in December 1999 and married in November 2000.
They briefly separated in 2013 after 13 years of marriage, but reconciled the following year.
