Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd are celebrating 40 years of Back to the Future — and joking about getting a little bit older
The two recently dined together, with Fox sharing a photo of the moment on Instagram

It was a Back to the Future reunion for stars Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox, who recently dined together and shared a photo on Instagram.
The photo, shared by 64-year-old Fox on his official Instagram account, showed the two seated next to one another at a restaurant.
Fox captioned the photo: “Dining with my bestie at the beach. Next year BTTF is 41. Great Scott. Chris will be 8️⃣8️⃣. That’s some serious s–t.”

Lloyd fired back in the comments, writing, “Man, that’s heavy.”
The caption was a nod to the 40-year-old film, in which Fox played Marty McFly to Lloyd’s Doc Brown. The two both appeared in the hit 1985 science fiction movie and its two sequels, which centered on a high school student who goes back in time and changes both his parents’ lives and his future. It also starred Lea Thompson as Lorraine Baines-McFly, Crispin Glover as George McFly and Thomas F. Wilson as Biff Tannen.
Upon its release, the movie was a smash hit, bringing in over $380 million at the box office. The film also won an Oscar, earning four total nominations.
The co-stars have reunited a number of times over the years, often sharing glimpses of their time together on social media.
In August, Fox made an appearance at a 40th anniversary screening of the film at Southampton Playhouse in Southampton, N.Y. The event included a rare screening of the movie in IMAX, and afterward, Fox took part in a screening conversation moderated by Southampton Playhouse Artistic Director Eric Kohn.
In May, Fox announced that he’d be releasing a memoir, Future Boy, this fall, in which he would recount what it was like filming Back to the Future and his beloved sitcom Family Ties at the same time.
He earlier told PEOPLE about that period of his life, “ ‘The only reason for time is so that everything doesn’t happen at once.’ I didn’t say that, Einstein did. I wonder if even Albert could make sense of my life in the first months of 1985, when time went rogue and took me with it. What was it like? In a word: busy.”

“As we approach the 40th anniversary of Back to the Future, my thoughts turn to my adventures as a younger man,” he added. “This book has basically become a time machine for me, but unlike the DeLorean, there’s plenty of room for anyone who’d like to climb in for the ride.”
