Michael V. Doane is back with his latest song, “I Know” and it’s a cinematic indie-pop track that blends emotional lyrics with big, atmospheric soundscapes. The song showcases a more personal side from Doane after taking time away from music for family and to raise his twins.
Doane, who was born in California and raised in Oregon, has extensive experience as a performer having played on Broadway, in New York City, and across Europe. After returning to music, he released songs like “James Alvin (His Song)” and the upbeat “Let’s Go!”. Now, presently, “I Know” brings him back to the emotional pop style that helped shape his style from the jump.
“I stepped away from music for a while when my kids were born, and coming back changed how I write”
Lyrically, the single tells the story of someone whose love changed the narrator’s life. It begins in a dark place with phrases like “a ghost in my own skin” and “drowning in my sin,” before turning hopeful and warm. Lines like “you came like the rain, washed the dust off my soul” speak to the healing power of love and connection.
“I stepped away from music for a while when my kids were born, and coming back changed how I write,” Doane said. “‘I Know’ is more honest than anything I’ve done before.”
Along with the single, Doane also released a music video filled with layered visuals and emotional imagery that match the timbre of the song perfectly.
