Tony is back on the case!
NCIS fan favorite Michael Weatherly is set to return to the flagship series for a season-long arc, CBS announced on Wednesday.
An original cast member, Weatherly starred on NCIS for 13 seasons as Tony DiNozzo, a charming member of the Major Case Response Team. Weatherly departed the series in 2016, but he reprised the role in the 2025 spinoff, NCIS: Tony & Ziva, which paired him with fellow OG Cote de Pablo.

In December, Paramount+ surprisingly canceled Tony & Ziva.
“We feel incredibly lucky to have had the chance to play these characters once again and to tell the next chapter of Tony and Ziva’s story,” Weatherly and de Pablo said in a joint statement. “Our deepest thanks go to our extraordinary cast, crew, writers, directors, and producers, and to our partners at CBS Studios and Paramount+ who helped make this dream a reality.”
The pair continued, “But most of all, we want to thank the fans around the world who joined us on this adventure and finally got to see Tony and Ziva find their happily ever after.”

The news of Weatherly’s NCIS return comes the day after his former costar Mark Harmon was revealed to be stepping back into the universe with his own extended arc on the NCIS prequel Origins.
Featuring Sean Murray, Wilmer Valderrama, Brian Dietzen, Diona Reasonover, Katrina Law, and Gary Cole, season 24 of NCIS premieres this fall on CBS.
