Actress and metro Detroit native Kristen Bell’s voice is in a soon-to-be released Fox News Media project called “The Life of Jesus Podcast” – apparently to her surprise.
Bell was blindsided by news from Fox that she would be featured as Mary Magdalene in the series set for rollout Nov. 30, according to a report from Rolling Stone.
Fox News Media, however, has indicated actors like Bell cooperated in the retooling of their voice work from a prior project, but did not respond to questions seeking to clarify how. Like Bell, other actors in the project also told Rolling Stone they were unaware of the podcast.
Bell recorded her audio in question for a different project from 2010: a New Testament audiobook called “The Truth and Life Dramatized Audio Bible,” Rolling Stone reported.
Her representative told Rolling Stone that Bell became aware of the new podcast a day before a Nov. 19 Fox announcement and did not give permission for the audiobook’s repurposing.

The use came from a new licensing deal with Gulfstream Studios, according to Fox News Media.
When asked about Bell being blindsided, Fox News Media contact Connor Smith provided an emailed statement: “Gulfstream Studios produced the ‘Life of Jesus Podcast’ from The Truth and Life Dramatized Audio Bible, which was licensed by FOX News Audio, with full cooperation and participation by all the actors involved.”
Bell grew up in Huntington Woods and is married to Milford-raised actor and podcaster Dax Shepard.
She spoke in 2018 on the “WTF with Marc Maron” podcast about not being very religious, being a humanist, her mother’s strong Christian faith and attending a Catholic high school –Shrine Catholic Schools in Royal Oak boasts her attendance − due to her mother’s concerns with drugs at her local public school.
“The Life of Jesus Podcast” is part of the Fox Faith vertical and includes 52 episodes, 30 minutes each, with introductions by FOX & Friends co-host Ainsley Earhardt. It will be available on platforms including Spotify, Apple Podcast and FOXNewsPodcasts.com
