Claim:

Mick Jagger, lead singer of The Rolling Stones, held a moment of silence in tribute to Charlie Kirk during a September 2025 concert.

Rating:

False

Following the fatal shooting of conservative activist and Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk in September 2025, a number of claims regarding Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger’s apparent reaction to Kirk’s death spread across social media.

Popular posts on Facebook (archived) and X (archived) claimed Jagger held a moment of silence in tribute of Kirk and 9/11 victims at a concert in New York City. The Facebook post went into more detail, claiming Jagger’s concert was in a “packed arena” of 20,000 on Sept. 12. A number of Snopes readers reached out to ask whether the claims were true.

These claims were false. There was no evidence Jagger held a moment of silence in honor of Kirk. As of Sept. 15, 2025, Jagger had not publicly reacted to Kirk’s death.

The Rolling Stones last went on tour (archived) in summer 2024. Multiple ticket and concert schedule websites, such as Seat Geek (archived), JamBase (archived) and Song Kick (archived), showed Jagger was not on tour in September 2025. Jagger’s website (archived) also did not mention an ongoing tour.

The two largest arenas in New York City most capable of hosting such a concert are Madison Square Garden and Barclays Center. Kali Uchis performed in Madison Square Garden on Sept. 12. Anuel AA performed in Barclays Center on that date.

A Google search for “Mick Jagger Charlie Kirk tribute” did not return any results documenting a Jagger tribute to Kirk.

Those weren’t the only claims involving Jagger to get widespread attention following Kirk’s death. Some social media posts (archived) showed an apparent screenshot of an X post from Jagger saying that the news made him sick and that Jesus is coming. Similarly, a widely viewed post on X (archived) claimed Jagger was quoted as saying, “I’ve never witnessed anything this sick,” in response to people cheering for Kirk’s death.

However, here were no such posts on Jagger’s X account (archived) reacting to Kirk’s death. A Google search for Jagger and the quote “I’ve never witnessed anything this sick” did not return any results aside from social media posts sharing the claim.

Snopes could find no evidence Jagger had publicly commented on Kirk’s death at the time of the posts. A general search for news on Jagger between Sept. 11 and Sept. 15 did not uncover any stories about Jagger and Kirk, or even any interviews Jagger did between those dates. Articles on Jagger during that time included a story about his relationship with Rolling Stones founder Brian Jones, a story referencing a Jagger interview from 1995 and news that The Rolling Stones were “nearly done” working on a new album.

There have been a number of false claims regarding celebrities’ reactions to Kirk’s death. For example, Snopes fact-checked a rumor that Minnesota Vikings star Justin Jefferson pledged to cover expenses for Kirk’s family.
