“Shame, Shame, Shame” isn’t new, but it’s getting a brand-new twist.

First released in December 1974 by Shirley & Company and written by Sylvia Robinson, the disco smash hit #12 on the Billboard Hot 100, topped both the U.S. Soul and Disco charts, and climbed to #6 in the U.K. Now, nearly 50 years later, the Rolling Stones are putting their stamp on it. But according to Mick Jagger, the Stones have actually been toying with the track for decades.

On Sunday, September 28, the 82-year-old rock icon posted a behind-the-scenes studio clip to social media, belting the lyrics alongside singer Chanel Haynes. “We first tried out ‘Shame Shame Shame’ around the time of Black and Blue,” Jagger wrote in the caption. “It was fun to return to it now and add something to it!”

Black and Blue was the Stones’ 1976 album, recorded while they auditioned new guitarists after Mick Taylor’s departure. It leaned into funk, reggae, and disco influences and produced hits like “Fool to Cry.”

Shortly after Jagger’s post landed on Instagram, fans wasted no time flooding the comments section.

“Brilliant 🤩 I thought Shirley & Co was great but this gives a run for its money!” one person wrote.

“He is iconic. He is a legend. He is Mick Jj 💋. His fashion is top tier too!!” another swooned.

“Wow so [these] are new recorded vocals, Mick Jagger voice still the same at 82!” chimed in a third.

“Love the girl singer, too. This version really pops, with the underlying deep strong beat ❤️🌟,” someone else pointed out.

Haynes, 46, reposted Jagger’s video on her own Instagram, adding: “My heart is pounding, filled with joy and gratitude. ♥️♥️♥️”

The fresh cut is part of the Black and Blue Super Deluxe box set, arriving November 14. Along with a Steven Wilson remix of the 1976 album, the set includes unreleased jams and outtakes — like “Shame, Shame, Shame” — plus a fully restored 1976 Earls Court concert on Blu-ray and a 100-page book.
