Each week, our staff highlights top local events to help you make the most of your time. Here’s a look at Midland events you won’t want to miss this week.
The Friends of the Permian Basin Bicycle Association will host an event at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 1, at the Midland MTB Park. Attendees should plan to meet at the pavilion. Riders are invited to ride with the group or at their own pace. In the event of rain, the event will be canceled because the trails will be closed.
Tall City Music Fest plans to feature several live music options, including Flatland Calvary, Braxton Keith and Wade Forster and The Texases, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Centennial Park, 200 W. Wall St. in downtown Midland. The show is set for Saturday, May 2, and tickets are available online.
“Dear Evan Hansen,” directed by Emma Evenson, opened at Davis Theatre I on April 24. The play is recommended for ages 16 and older. “Dear Evan Hansen” contains very coarse language and themes addressing suicide, anxiety, depression and mental health disorders. Discretion is advised.
There is a performance beginning at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at Midland Community Theatre, 2000 W. Wadley Ave. in Midland. The pay-what-you-can performance will be offered at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 3. Attendees can pay as little as $1 for admission.
The show features a book by Tony Award-winner Steven Levenson (Fosse/Verdon), and a score by Grammy, Tony and Academy Award winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. All his life, Evan Hansen has felt invisible. However, when a tragic event shocks the community and puts him at the center of a rapidly evolving controversy, Evan is given the opportunity of a lifetime: the chance to be somebody else.
