Millie Bobby Brown says her childhood in the public eye influences how she raises her daughter with Jake Bongiovi
Brown prioritizes creating a safe, nurturing environment and encourages her daughter to be confident and speak her mind
The actress plans to keep her daughter’s name and details private until she’s old enough to decide for herself
Millie Bobby Brown is sharing how growing up in the public eye is going to affect her parenting style with her baby girl.
The Stranger Things star, 22, appeared on Kylie Kelce’s podcast Not Gonna Lie this week and spoke about her daughter, whom she welcomed through adoption last summer with her husband Jake Bongiovi. Brown said that she’s having an “amazing time” being a mom and added that she feels a “huge responsibility” to be raising a girl.
“I do think raising a daughter, coming from my experience of having a really public childhood and getting criticized as a girl and as a woman so frequently, I just take it very seriously to raise a girl that can be proud of who they are and be confident and embrace it,” said Brown.

“Just coming from my experience specifically, I think it was really kind of my goal to just provide a world where she feels really safe and loved and nurtured and embraced,” she continued. “And that’s what my parents did to me.”
“And that’s the way I am. Because I was always just encouraged to speak my mind and be myself.”
The new mom said that she and her husband will have a “debate” with their daughter rather than shushing her.
“I’m fully embracing the fact that she’s telling me something in a really passionate way,” said Brown. “I don’t know what she’s saying, but I really hope it’s kind of life-changing.”
Brown and Bongiovi, 23, announced they welcomed their daughter together on Instagram on Aug. 21.
“This summer we welcomed our sweet baby girl through adoption. We are beyond excited to embark on this beautiful next chapter of parenthood in both peace and privacy,” the actress wrote in the post. “And then there were 3.”
In November, the Enola Holmes star spoke with British Vogue for their cover story. When the outlet asked about her baby’s name, Brown pushed back and explained that she wasn’t planning on sharing private details about her daughter.
“I’m not going to. For me, it’s really important to protect her and her story until she’s old enough to potentially one day share it herself,” Brown said. “It’s not my place to purposefully put her in the spotlight unwillingly.”
“If she chooses to share her personality one day with the world, like I did when I was young, that’s something we’d support. But right now, as she’s so little…” she continued. “As her parents, it’s our job to protect her from that.”
Brown said that there are no plans to share her daughter’s name until “she’s ready to decide for herself.”
