Meghan Markle spent several years in the royal family before deciding to leave with Prince Harry for a new life in America.
While working as senior royals, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex carried out a number of public engagements, with Meghan’s first major event taking place at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in London, England.
The former Suits star joined Harry as they met with youth delegates taking part in the meeting. The event took place a month before their wedding, giving Harry a chance to show off his bride-to-be.
Body language expert Judi James has been looking back at the outing and suggested it showed the start of Meghan “inducting Harry into the etiquette of non-royal life.”
One moment stood out for James as Meghan tried to walk in front of her now-husband, something which is against royal protocol.
James suggested Meghan seemed “confident” during the public outing, while Harry appeared “insecure.”
“When there’s a misstep, it’s Harry who leaps into correction mode, while Meghan always sees her movements through to the end,” the expert added.
At the time of the meeting, etiquette expert William Hanson said, “From a protocol point of view, Harry should have gone first.”
However, he countered, “From a chivalry point of view, it is always preferable to let your spouse or girlfriend go first. So he wasn’t wrong, but he wasn’t right either.”
