Next week, it’s the Philadelphia premiere of Kimberly Akimbo, the winner of five Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

One of the original Broadway cast members is a Montgomery County native who is thrilled to bring the show to his hometown.

“Philly has fully shaped me into who I am today,” says Kim Hogan. “I’m such a Philly kid at heart.”

Hogan grew up in Roslyn, and music was always running through his veins.

“Music got in there pretty early,” he says. “Singing got in there pretty early. Honestly, I really do have Philly to thank for my musical roots.”

Hogan is one-third of the viral a cappella vocal trio T.3.

He’s also a star on Broadway and one of the original cast members of the smash hit “Kimberly Akimbo.”

Next week, he’s bringing the show home for its Philadelphia premiere at the Academy of Music.

“As a kid coming up and seeing shows at the Academy, you always dream that you would get to do something like this,” he says.

“Kimberly Akimbo” is a coming-of-age story about growing up and growing old.

“It’s a very bittersweet show,” says Hogan. “There’s a lot of comedy, but there’s a lot of heart and a little bit of tragedy in there too. You get the best of both worlds. I cannot wait to stand on that stage at the Academy. It’s just going to be a magical moment, for sure.”

Kimberly Akimbo is on stage from October 21 through November 2 at the Academy of Music.
