Matt Reeves has some ideas for other The Batman spin-off shows.
Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios’ The Batman was released in 2022. Directed by Reeves, the movie stars Robert Pattinson as the titular Dark Knight, while the cast also includes Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, and Colin Farrell as The Penguin. A sequel is in the works and is currently dated for 2027.
Farrell reprised his Oswald “Oz” Cobb role in HBO’s The Penguin, a spin-off show that premiered in 2024. Cristin Milioti won the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie Primetime Emmy Award for her performance as Sofia Gigante in the show, while it was also nominated for a number of others.
What did Matt Reeves say about there being more The Batman spin-off shows?
Speaking with Deadline at the Emmys, Reeves was asked if there were plans to make more spin-off shows focused on characters that inhabit the Batman Epic Crime Saga universe.
“We have talked about that,” Reeves said. “And I really am hoping to do that. But, obviously, it all comes down to finding the right idea that works for the network and works for everybody. I have a bunch of ideas that we’ve talked about — we’ve had a bunch of ideas, [producer Dylan Clark] and I have had a bunch of ideas. At the moment, the priority is to see if there is a Season 2 of The Penguin. But there are absolutely other characters that we’ve talked about doing that I would be really, really honored and excited if we had that opportunity.”
At this time, The Penguin has not been officially renewed for a second season; although, Reeves and others involved with the show have repeatedly said that they’re actively discussing the matter.
