After announcing their upcoming album The Wow! Signal via a broadcast from space, GRAMMY Award-winning English rock band Muse return with their new single “Cryogen”.
Muse wrote and produced “Cryogen” alongside Dan Lancaster (Bring Me the Horizon, blink-182), with additional production from Aleks von Korff.
It’s the third preview of The Wow! Signal, the band’s tenth studio album, due for release on Thursday, June 26th.
Muse’s latest single follows “Be with You”, an electronic-leaning release that introduced the new album. It quickly gained attention, reaching 3 million global streams in its first week and becoming the #1 Most Added song at Alternative Radio.
Its release included a widely reported stunt that saw the band send the music video into the upper atmosphere as a part of the album announcement.
The album takes its name from the unexplained 1977 “Wow!” Signal, a short radio burst that has long been linked to ideas about possible alien life. The reference appears to shape the project’s direction, with “Cryogen” focusing on distance and emotional isolation.

The band recently previewed “Cryogen” live at London’s O2 Academy Brixton — their first performance at the venue since 2001. Early responses pointed to a revival of the band’s more guitar-driven sound. The show drew strong reviews, with NME describing “Cryogen” as “a blast of classic Muse harking back to their ’00s days with wailing riffs [and] an arena-destroying chorus,” while also noting fans had camped out overnight to get close to the stage.
With multiple tracks now released ahead of The Wow! Signal, further details around the album and additional live plans are expected in the coming months.
