CLEVELAND, Ohio – Additional details have been announced for Packy Malley’s fundraiser to help Jamaicans in the aftermath of the hurricane that roared through the island nation in October.
Malley was on medical leave from the Peace Corps, where he served in Jamaica. After the hurricane ripped through the nation, he knew he had to do something to help.
So he created the Jamaican Hurricane Benefit and Holiday Gathering. It’s 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at the West Side Irish American Club, 8559 Jennings Road, Olmsted Township.

JoJo Carloni’s Italian Restaurant of Berea will provide the food. The event will have a cash bar.
Money raised will go to building supplies, roofing boards, generators and medical aid.

Malley, of the Malley’s Chocolates family, is a former Jamaican-record disc jockey who founded the Midwest Reggae Festival in 1992. Malley attended St. Ignatius High School and Ohio State University.
As Malley said on his Facebook announcement: “This event is about good people from America helping good people in Jamaica.”
Hurricane Melissa was savage, slowly swirling over the nation. It was responsible for 45 deaths, displaced thousands and caused $7 billion in damages.
Malley plans to return to Jamaica in his Peace Corps role.
