Ethan’s mother, Phyllis, tragically took her own life when he was just a toddler, in March 1976. She was only 30 years old and had married Jackson Browne a year prior.
In a 2021 interview, Jackson shared that after Phyllis’ death, his primary focus in life became fatherhood. In a conversation with Route Magazine, Jackson said: “I only had two things that I hoped I could fit together: being a songwriter and a father,” he said. “And I looked at it like this, if I have to only be a father, I hope I’ll know it, and just do that.”
After news of his passing broke, supporters flocked to social media to express their grief. One user on X, formerly known as Twitter, posted: “Heartbreaking news that Jackson Browne’s adult son Ethan has passed away. I’ve not only had a musical connection to Jackson but a fatherly one too, as you can see by these two photos framed in my house.”
