A new letter, with a financial demand for information about Nancy Guthrie, includes an ominous warning that suggests her captors have fled the country.
A third letter was sent to TMZ in the case, which has been ongoing for 13 days, after the 84-year-old mother of Today Show cohost Savannah Guthrie was reported missing on February 1. She was last seen the night before, when she was dropped off at her home after a family dinner.
In the new warning, additional details have been revealed about the case, with the unnamed sender of the communication hinting that they not only know who the kidnapper is but also where they are.
However, they also warn that the abductor has now gone international.
According to the news site, the latest money demand ends with the warning, “for the manhunt of the main individual that can give you all the answers and be prepared to go International.”
The implication in the note is that the kidnapper is hiding out in Mexico, which is just a short drive south from her home in Tucson.
It is the second time that it was implied that Guthrie’s abductor, and the 84-year-old herself, were across the border and no longer in the United States.
A previous ransom note allegedly sent by the kidnapper themselves indicated that Nancy was within a 700-mile radius of Tucson–which could place her deep into Mexico, near the Sinaloa state.
The note also used the phrase “the main individual,” suggesting that her abductor was not a lone actor and that there were accomplices.
The person who sent the newest note is demanding $100,000 in bitcoin, split over two payments, in return for the information on her kidnapper.
It’s the latest development in the case, which is now entering its second official week, and has seen no suspects named.
There has also been no sign or proof of life for the 84-year-old, thought authorities and the Guthrie family have continued to say that they feel she is still alive.
