So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
NATION OF LANGUAGE – “INEPT APOLLO (TOM SHARKETT REMIX)”
Nation of Language have shared a new remix of “Inept Apollo” by Tom Sharkett of WH Lung. They say: “We’re big fans of WH Lung, as well as Tom’s excellent recent LCD Soundsystem rework, so we were super excited when he reached out saying he wanted to take a crack at a new mix of ‘Inept Apollo.’ Our initial enthusiasm only grew when we received the end product a couple months later and were able to test it out in a club environment a few times. Can confidently report it sounds fantastic in a loud and crowded room. Here’s hoping it sees its way to a few dance floors in 2026.”

THE RURAL ALBERTA ADVANTAGE – “THE HUNT IN EDSON”
Ahead of their winter tour, The Rural Alberta Advantage shared a new single, “The Hunt in Edson.” “I’m always surprised how the small events in life worm their way into our songs, or even multiple moments that seem unrelated at the time,” vocalist and guitarist Nils Edenloff says. “Several years ago on a beautiful summer morning, my wife woke me up with a jolt when she realized that our cat Edson had brought a mouse into our bed. As surprised as I was, the mouse in Edson’s jaw was even more surprised when it was dropped and hit the bed, having been granted a new lease on life. From there, the mouse scurried up my leg trying to make a break for freedom and ended up behind the bed. The next several minutes involved a comical level chaos between us all, before I managed to trap the mouse and release it back into the yard. Around the same time, a friend let me know that they had received some life changing news, and opened the conversation with a quote I was unfamiliar with … ‘nothing concentrates the mind like a noose around your neck’. Somehow, both of these unrelated events kept popping up in my head as I was working on this song, wondering what the mouse must have thought about his unlikely escape that summer morning and how much it differed from what was going through my own mind in that morning.”

DAFFO – “I COULDN’T SAY IT TO YOUR FACE” (ARTHUR RUSSELL COVER)
“What can I say? I love Arthur Russell and I love to sing this song,” Daffo says of their new cover of “I Couldn’t Say It To Your Face.” “I always used to harmonize to the song when I listened to it, and I love recording with Rob Schnapf and Matt Schuessler, so I thought it would be super cool to get to make my version of the song come to life. I had my friends Nick Wilkerson (drums) and Aidan Finn (guitar, mellotron) come in and add their pieces to it. It was ultimately just a lot of fun!” Lance Bangs directed the accompanying video.

LEE LEWIS – “WHITE FLAG”
Soulful dreampop singer Lee Lewis is back with this elegant new song. “In many ways, ‘White Flag’ serves as the preamble to the slow death of something chaotic and toxic, a moment where self-worth finally begins to outweigh the emotional cat chase,” Lewis says. “It marks the point where I start to recognize that love should not cost me myself. In the song the chorus sings ‘I’m waving my white flag.’ It’s me saying, ‘I surrender, you win, I lose, I have to let this go.’ Sonically, it’s my take on Bond music: luxurious, sultry, and powerful. The song sits in the richest part of my voice, allowing it to feel warm, buttery, and intimate. ‘White Flag’ is about surrender, not as defeat, but as self-preservation. It’s the sound of laying down my armor after a battle that took far too much from me.”

LAUREL HALO – “MIDNIGHT ZONE”
“In 2024 the artist Julian Charrière asked if I would be interested to compose the score for his upcoming film Midnight Zone,” Laurel Halo says. “The film follows the path of a Fresnel lighthouse lens as it descends deeper into the Clarion-Clipperton Fracture Zone, a remote abyssal plain in the Pacific, rich in rare metals and increasingly targeted for deep-sea mining. We talked about what kind of music would accompany the emptiness and rhythms of the ocean – how to score a wordless film whose main characters are sea life, the lens, and light beams. I recorded most of the material on a TransAcoustic piano amplifying a Montage synthesizer, alongside viol da gamba, violin, and processed ocean foley.”

ACCESSORY – “CALCIUM”
Jasson Balla, singer and guitarist of DEHD, has announced the debut LP from his solo project Accessory. Dust is due out on April 17 via ACX, and the new single is “Calcium.” “This song is about living while the world burns,” Balla says. “I wrote it in a period of real hopelessness amidst all the suffering and hate that’s been the backdrop of the news lately. A lot of the song is just me trying to wrestle the events of the day into some kind of order, something to make sense of the debris.”
