Repelling Apophis features authentic ancient Egyptian instruments such as sistrum, harp, flute, and lyre. The instruments are fused with vocals performed in reconstructed Ancient Egyptian. The language was developed in collaboration with Egyptologist Dr. Christian de Vartavan.
The song and video is part of Nemuer’s upcoming art-music film Going Forth by Day. The film will bring the Book of the Dead to life through a series of interconnected music videos. The film is set to be released in late 2026.
Michael Zann shares his thoughts:
“I think most people don’t realize that we still fight darkness, chaos, depression, and all kinds of evil as ancient Egyptians did, but just with different means. While some rituals were of violent nature, we miss its symbolic power that has a healing effect on our psyche.”
