It’s safe to say podcasts have come a long way.
Spotify has tapped Netflix to help bring video podcasts to the streaming giant’s platform.
Teaming up, the two companies have formed a partnership, where a selection of podcasts from The Ringer — a network acquired by Spotify in 2020 — will be available to view on Netflix in early 2026 for U.S. users.
The scope of shows will range from sports to culture to true crime, focusing on complimenting Netflix’s current slate and rake in new audiences, while drawing from The Ringer’s lineup. The two companies have said additional markets outside the U.S. are next.
“This partnership marks a new chapter for podcasting,” Spotify’s Head of Podcasts Roman Wasenmüller said in a statement. “Together with Netflix, we’re expanding discovery, helping creators reach new audiences, and giving fans around the world the chance to experience the stories they love and uncover favorites they never expected. This offers more choice to creators and unlocks a completely new distribution opportunity.”
Lauren Smith, Netflix’s vice president of content licensing and programming strategy, shared that the handpicked selection “adds fresh voices and new perspectives to Netflix.”
The podcasts that are making their way over to the streaming platform include, “The Bill Simmons Podcast,” “The Rewatchables” and “Serial Killers.” More are to come after the official launch.
According to Spotify, the pioneering initiative is the next step towards evolving the company into a multimedia experience, as further headway is planned in the future to “bring similar opportunities to a wider range of creators.”
The major announcement comes as media companies have latched onto video podcasts, which are the next big thing to entice audiences.
