Netflix is reportedly in “advanced talks” with the creator of The Crown, Peter Morgan, to develop a limited series centred on Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s scandals and his recent arrest. It has been claimed that the streaming giant has held discussions about creating one-off dramatised specials which explore royal controversies.
The series spanned major events in the Royal Family’s history from Princess Elizabeth’s marriage to Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten in 1947 to the wedding of Charles and Camilla in 2005. The show ran for six seasons and ended in 2023 and famously featured Claire Foy, Olivia Colman and Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II throughout her reign.
The suggestion of a possible renewal comes after Andrew was arrested on his 66th birthday for suspicion of misconduct in public office.
A source told the Daily Mail: “The events of last week are historic and unprecedented. There have been discussions for some time with Left Bank Pictures, which owns the rights to The Crown, for a series of one-off specials about royal scandals and dramas. The Crown, as a series, has ended, but the name will live on.”
The source continued: “There have been advanced talks about doing a limited series, under The Crown banner, about the Andrew saga, which is as dramatic, if not more dramatic, than anything shown in the original series, which included episodes on the abdication and the death of Diana.”
Peter Morgan previously said he planned to maintain “a careful distance” from modern-day events.

It has also been claimed that rival streaming platforms are also considering how to cover the story of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s fall from grace.
This reportedly includes Disney+ and Amazon Prime, which previously produced a drama based on Andrew’s disastrous BBC Newsnight interview with actor Michael Sheen, taking on the role of the disgraced Duke.
Netflix also previously produced a show based on the interview, called Scoop, with actor Rufus Sewell playing the ex-Duke and Gillian Anderson taking on the role of Emily Maitlis.
