Don’t ask, don’t tell, just watch.

The first teaser for Netflix’s upcoming closeted Marine recruit show Boots is now out.

“My life needs a change, sir. I want to be somebody else,” closeted teen Cameron Cope, played by Miles Heizer, softly says at the start of the first trailer for the upcoming Netflix series.

“Son, boot camp is the machine that turns boys into men,” the recruiter sternly says back as Cameron eagerly smiles. “In 13 weeks, you won’t even recognize yourself. Are you sure you’re ready for that?”

The teaser then introduces viewers to some of the other recruits Cameron is training with as their bus pulls up to the Marine base. However, introductions are cut short when a drill sergeant runs onto the bus, shouting at the teens and getting them in line. “Oh, dear,” Cameron lets out.

The teaser is an intense introduction to the upcoming one-hour comedic drama from Netflix. Based on the memoir The Pink Marine by Greg Cope White, Boots follows a closeted teen named Cameron Cope who, along with his best friend, joins the Marines. The series is set in the 1990s, when being openly gay in the military was illegal.

In addition to Heizer, Boots stars Liam Oh as Cameron’s best friend Ray, Vera Farmiga as Cameron’s narcissistic mother Barbara, and Max Parker as Sgt. Sullivan, as well as Cedrick Cooper, Ana Ayora, Angus O’Brien, Dominic Goodman, Kieron Moore, Nicholas Logan, Rico Pairs, and more. It comes from showrunners Andy Parker and Jennifer Cecil.

Boots debuts on Netflix on October 9. Watch the teaser below.
