Newest Adds to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#164)

Don’t be daunted by the ludicrous amount of songs and albums being released all the time. Let Saving Country Music be your helpful musical Sherpa, sifting through it all to find the best stuff and present it in one place. That’s what this playlist is about.

The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist is built to keep you informed on all the best songs and albums coming out right here, right now in country and roots music. It’s available on most all streaming formats (see below), or you can just use the song, artist, and album recommendations to find something new to listen to.

Newest Additions:

Ashley McBryde – “Bottle Tells Me So”
– Excellent songwriting by McBryde, Shelly Fairchild, and Terri Jo Box on this tune from Ashley’s upcoming album Wild out May 8th. Blending “bottle” with “Bible” is an overused trope in country songs. But as Ashley McBryde proves, there was one angle that had yet to be explored. Being able to take a country cliché and turn it into something genius is what great country music is all about.

Mo Pitney, Jake Worthington – “Wake Up And Smell The Country” – Before the big neotraditionalist push in country music recently, there was Mo Pitney. He was one of the few trying to do country music the right way well before many others were allowed to. Now that the opportunity is ripe for his return, that’s exactly what he’s doing with this lead single from an upcoming album. Even more fitting, he returns with one of the top new neotraditionalists of this time.

Presley Haile – “Just Drivin’” – Once again Presley Haile turns in a stunning song like she’s been doing for a couple of years now. Never has a song that purports to be about nothing really carried so much emotional weight and meaning. And like all great songs, the chorus takes Presley to the sweet spot in her voice. The only problem with “Just Drivin’” is it comes without the promise of a debut album yet again.

Spencer Hatcher – “Love Button” – Song after song, Spencer Hatcher continues to impress as a fast-rising neotraditionalist worth keeping your eye on. If you love Zach Top and Jake Worthington, Hatcher needs to be in your music diet too. “Love Button” was originally recorded by Shelby Lee Lowe in 2022. Hatcher smartly saw the strength of this songs and recorded a version himself.

Jack McKeon – “Pontiac Blue” – We knew that Jack McKeon was a sweet and inspiring bluegrass-adjacent songwriter. And certainly he is these things too. But with his latest single, Jack lays the hammer down and takes a trip into traditional country with favorable results. Whatever has gotten into Jack, we like it.

Leah Blevins – “Diggin’ In The Coal”
– Kentucky native Leah Blevins has just released a new album called All Dressed Up with producer Dan Auerbach that is quite the lush and involved affair, including numerous classic and traditional country songs. It’s the groove of “Diggin’ In The Coal” that makes it one of the gems of the set.

Silverada – “Highway Man” – This song finds Silverada striking a reflective mood, inspired by the many miles and many places and people they’ve seen on the road. Whether shop talk for musicians, truckers, cowboys, and dreamers, or a dose of escapism for those landlocked with little ones and regular jobs, “Highway Man” sets you out on a lonesome high desert road alive with a sense of freedom. It’s from their upcoming album Living Proof out August 7th.
