When it comes to country music stars few are as beloved as Dolly Parton.
Really, you can cut out the country and just say when it comes to musicians of all genres, few are as popular as Parton is.
So, when Parton cancelled a slate of shows in Las Vegas earlier this year, fans were concerned. And when her sister, Stella, followed that up with a prayer request … well, folks were downright frightened.
“Last night, I was up all night praying for my sister, Dolly,” she wrote on Facebook. “Many of you know she hasn’t been feeling her best lately. I truly believe in the power of prayer, and I have been led to ask all of the world that loves her to be prayer warriors and pray with me. She’s strong, she’s loved, and with all the prayers being lifted for her, I know in my heart she’s going to be just fine. Godspeed, my sissy Dolly. We all love you!”
Well, Dolly returned to social media to let her fans know that she was not dying, but when it came to everything that was going on with her health, she didn’t share all of the details.
Luckily, for her fans though, it appears she is doing better. At least, that is, according to a recent report by People Magazine.
“Dolly is getting every day,” the outlet said a “source close to Parton” said.
“She is at home taking care of herself while many friends and family visit her,” the source added. “In true Dolly spirit she has already started decorating for the holidays — her favorite time of year.”
Parton addressed fans about what was going on when she announced on social media in late September that she was postponing the Las Vegas shows.
“I want the fans and public to hear directly from me that, unfortunately, I will need to postpone my upcoming Las Vegas concerts,” Parton wrote in a statement shared to her X page. “As many of you know, I have been dealing with some health challenges, and my doctors tell me that I must have a few procedures. As I joked with them, it must be time for my 100,000-mile check-up, although it’s not the usual trip to see my plastic surgeon! In all seriousness, given this, I am not going to be able to rehearse and put together the show that I want you to see, and the show that you deserve to see. You pay good money to see me perform, and I want to be at my best for you. While I’ll still be able to work on all of my projects from here in Nashville, I just need a little time to get show read, as they say.
“And don’t worry about me quittin’ the business because God hasn’t said anything about stopping yet,” she added. “But I believe He is telling me to slow down right now so I can be ready for more big adventures with all of you. I love you and thank you for understanding.”
Parton also cancelled an appearance at Dollywood earlier this year. In a video that she shared explaining why she wasn’t able to make it, she said, “I had a little problem. I had a kidney stone, which caused me a lot of problems.”
“Turns out there was an infection,” she added. “And the doctor said, ‘You don’t need to be traveling around this minute, so you need a few days to get better.’ So, he suggested I not go to Dollywood today.”
