A new 4,000-square-foot entertainment venue is opening in the Foundry building Downtown, filling the last vacancy in the former Macy’s department store building located at 70 W. Fifth St.
Cincinnati Center City Development Corp., (3CDC), began redeveloping the building during the pandemic and has signed leases for a mix of retail, office and restaurant operators.
New venue will be called Prim
The new venue, called Prim, is from The Academy − the creative collective behind the Ghost Baby speakeasy-style cocktail bar and live music venue located four stories underground in the former Champion Brewery in Over-the-Rhine.
Ghost Baby was recently named one of USA TODAY’s 2025 “Bars of the Year.”
Prim will offer food, cocktails, live and recorded music in an event space designed to reimagine “living room entertainment” in an “intimate, intentional, and entertainment-led” environment.
Owners showing confidence in Downtown
Josh Heuser, founder of experiential agency AGAR and the man behind Ghost Baby and Prim, said his latest concept is a show of confidence in the potential of Cincinnati’s urban core “at a time when its strength and spirit are under the spotlight.”
Downtown has come under nationwide scrutiny in recent weeks in the wake of a video of a Downtown brawl on July 26 that went viral and led to several arrests and questions about the safety of Cincinnati’s urban core.
“We’re not blind to the conversations happening around downtown right now—and we don’t shyaway from them,” Heuser said in a press release. “We believe in this city. Prim is an invitation to lean in — tocreate, to connect, to celebrate what makes Cincinnati vibrant.”
Heuser declined to reveal the investment in the new space.
