A new monthly live music and event series is coming to California Avenue with the launch of Thursday Live on Cal Ave, the city of Palo Alto announced in a May 21 press release.
The series will take place on one Thursday evening every month between May and September, with a special daytime October event planned for Saturday, Oct. 31. The events will be free.
Thursday Live on Cal Ave will feature live music, unique themed activities every month, games and giveaways. The series will launch on May 28.
The event will take place along the pedestrian-only stretch of California Avenue, between El Camino Real and Birch Street. The inaugural event will — in a way — bring cars back to the street for one night, as its centerpiece is a show of high-end luxury vehicles coordinated by Auto Vino and presented by Terún Pizzeria.
The California Avenue restaurant will also be supplying some of the music for the event, with a performance by the Terún Family Band on the Ash stage. Palo Alto rockers Past Curfew will perform on the El Camino stage. Emceeing the event will be Marcus from Marcus in The Morning on Star 101.3. There will also be a kids zone.
Making it all official will be a ribbon-cutting with city officials at 6 p.m.
The Palo Alto Weekly is a sponsor of the event, along with Stanford Research Park and Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan.
Upcoming events will be: A Taste of Cal Ave with world music on June 25; a wine walk on July 30; wellness and end of summer on Aug. 27; and a harvest festival with jazz on Sept. 24. A special Halloween and Oktoberfest event will be held Oct. 31.
Thursday Live on Cal Ave follows in the footsteps of the 3rdThursday series, which also featured live music and themed activities on California Avenue each month between May 2023 and October 2025.
The inaugural Thursday Live on Cal Ave takes place May 28, 5-8 p.m. with the ribbon-cutting at 6 p.m. on California Avenue between El Camino Real and Birch Street, Palo Alto. Admission is free. For more information, visit paloalto.gov.
