The original Gilmore Girls series ended after seven seasons in 2007. Netflix subsequently released a revival in 2016, called Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, which consisted of four episodes. Now, fans can get even more Gilmore Girl’s content in Ink On Paper Studios’ upcoming documentary, Searching For Stars Hollow, just in time for its 25th anniversary.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the documentary will look at the show’s enduring success and influence. Several of the show’s crew members and stars, like Kelly Bishop, Jared Padalecki, Chad Michael Murray, Keiko Agena, Sally Struthers, and Liz Torres, will be in the project, per The Hollywood Reporter. Other Gilmore Girl cast members that will appear in the upcoming project, include Kathleen Wilhoite, Emily Kuroda Grant Lee Phillips, Rose Abdoo, Matt Jones, and Grant Lee Phillips.
One of the film’s directors, Meghna Balakumar, shared that she has enjoyed interviewing the show’s cast in an August 2025 statement.
The interviews that we’ve already conducted with the cast have been a delight. We’ve shot more than 100 hours of footage and have already unearthed stories, commentary, critiques, and more,” stated Balakumar, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. “And we’re continuing to shoot more interviews in the coming months to present the most complete, full and truly new story of the show’s impact and legacy that is only possible at this historical moment.”
The film’s producer, Jim Demonakos, also shared what fans can expect from the documentary.
“Searching For Stars Hollow will reveal how Gilmore Girls came to life, why it continues to resonate across generations, and how its unique blend of humor, heart and pop culture shaped a devoted worldwide fan community with an in-depth look at its creation and the connections it continues to foster. This documentary is for fans of the show but also for anyone with an interest in cultural history and how it affects individual lives,” said Demonakos, per The Hollywood Reporter.
Several Gilmore Girls fans shared their reaction to the documentary in different Reddit threads on the Gilmore Girls subreddit. Many commenters shared they were upset that Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham, who played the titular Gilmore Girls, Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, were not yet attached to the project.
“no Alexis and Lauren?” asked one person.
“They got pretty much everyone but Alexis, Lauren, and Scott [Patterson]. Awww bummer,” shared another.
“I hope Lauren and Alexis will appear. Otherwise it’s weird to have a documentary about Gilmore Girls in which the actual Gilmore Girls don’t appear but the side characters,” commented a different Reddit user.
“Maybe Lauren and Alexis are a surprise… (here’s to hoping 🤞),” stated a commenter.
“I don’t see Lauren in there, not to even mention Alexis… The girls are allergic to… Gilmore girls,” chimed in a fifth person.
In another August 25 thread on the Gilmore Girls subreddit, the crew behind Searching For Stars Hollow asked fans who they would like to be interviewed from the show for the project. Several commenters said they wanted Graham, Bledel, and Patterson, who played Lorelai’s main love interest, diner owner Luke Danes, to be a part of the documentary.
“I hope they would have the main characters- Alexis, Lauren and Scott if they are doing a doc. But let’s not forget about everyone else who made the show as well. The whole cast was just outstanding,” wrote a commenter.
“Lauren and Alexis are a must!!” stated a fan.
“Lauren, Alexis and Scott. Please and thanks,” added another.
Some fans also replied they wanted Matt Czuchry, who played Logan Huntzberger, Sean Gunn, who played Kirk, and Milo Ventimiglia, who played Jess Mariano, to be interviewed for the documentary.
