AVONDALE — Pitchfork Music Festival co-founder Mike Reed is bringing a new five-day music event to Chicago this year called Sound & Gravity.
Branded as an immersive, multi-genre musical experience, Sound & Gravity features 48 musical acts, including Bill Callahan, Mdou Moctar, Helado Negro, Mary Lattimore, Irreversible Entanglements, Jeff Parker Expansion Trio, ganavya and Tabby. There will also be surprise sets curated by Electrical Audio, the local recording studio founded by Steve Albini.
The new festival takes place Sept. 10-14 at a variety of local venues in and around Avondale, including Constellation, Hungry Brain, Judson & Moore, Beat Kitchen, Guild Row and Rockwell on the River, “capitalizing on the neighborhood’s walkability,” according to the event’s official press announcement. All the venues are within a five- to 15-minute walk from each other, according to organizers.
Sound & Gravity’s aim is to “reflect the eclectic programming ethos of Constellation Performing Arts,” a Northwest Side music venue that Reed also founded, according to a press release about the fest.
Tickets for Sound & Gravity go on sale 11 a.m. Wednesday. An opening night pass is $45, a single-day pass is $95 and an all-event four-day pass is $240.
