The season kicks off with “Poltergeist,” the 1982 classic written by Stephen Spielberg, with a free showing at the Warner Library in Tarrytown Oct. 23 at 6 pm.

A double feature of “The Evil Dead,” the 1981 Sam Raimi film that launched a legendary horror franchise, and “The Velvet Vampire,” a 1971 cult classic that’s seldom screened, mark the organization’s official launch Oct. 30 at the Lyceum in Tarrytown at 7 p.m. Admission for both is $15.

“Sleepy Hollow Cinema is incredibly excited to bring this slate of movies to our community just a few months after our founding as we look to secure a permanent location,” said SHC chairman Marc Solomon. “We’re looking forward to bringing a wide range of films to our villages, from spooky horror to family classics, in the years to come.”

The organization was launched in June with the purpose of bringing film to Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown and features a board made up of movie lovers eager to have a theater in their villages. The organization is starting with pop-up screenings around town but aims to have a permanent location within a few years so stay tuned for more coming attractions.
