BLACK Country NHS staff have been recognised at a Royal Garden Party for their dedication and service.
Yunzheng Jiao, principal pharmacist for research and clinical trials at The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, and Jayne Dunn, director of commissioning at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust were invited to the Buckingham Palace event on May 6.
Jonathan Odum, group chief medical officer at both trusts, also attended in recognition of his extensive service to the NHS.
The event honours individuals who have made exceptional contributions to public service or their communities.
Mr Jiao was recognised for his work in clinical research and pharmacy.
Since joining The Dudley Group, he has relocated the pharmacy clinical trial team to the research department to reduce dispensing times.
He has also developed a pharmacist-led rheumatology clinical service and created a staff wellbeing group within the Research and Innovation Department.
Mr Jiao said: “It was a huge honour and a very humbling experience to be invited to attend the Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.
“I felt extremely proud to represent both the pharmacy profession and The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust.
“Meeting King Charles and having the opportunity to shake his hand was something I will remember for the rest of my life.”
Ms Dunn was nominated for her work on the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital in Smethwick, which she has helped develop, plan, and open over the past 12 years.
She said: “It was a great privilege and pleasure to be nominated to attend the Royal Garden party at Buckingham Palace.
“It was lovely experience to see so many members of the Royal Family present to celebrate the achievements of those invited across many sectors including the NHS, charities, local government, military, police and religious organisations and to talk to other attendees from all walks of life about their stories.
“The gardens were magnificent, and the event was organised to perfection.”
The garden party was attended by King Charles, Queen Camilla, Princess Anne, Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh.
