Nicole Kidman talks about her new career path as a death doula amid her divorce from Keith Urban. For those unversed, a death doula is also known as an end-of-life doula. It means providing support, emotional care, and love to people towards the end of their lives and easing the process of death for them.
Nicole Kidman talks about new career path
Nicole Kidman revealed she is learning to be a death doula during a recent appearance. Kidman explained her stance during a talk at the University of San Francisco’s War Memorial Gym on Saturday, April 11 (via San Francisco Chronicle).
The Oscar winner explained that the idea “may sound a little weird” to investigative journalist and USF graduate Vicky Nguyen as part of the school’s Silk Speaker Series. Kidman confessed that the idea first came to her when her mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, passed away in September 2024.
The 58-year-old detailed, “As my mother was passing, she was lonely, and there was only so much the family could provide. Between my sister and me, we have so many children and our careers and our work, and wanting to take care of her because my father wasn’t in the world anymore, and that’s when I went, ‘I wish there were these people in the world who were there to sit impartially and just provide solace and care.’”
Kidman added, “So that’s part of my expansion and one of the things I will be learning.” Notably, the actress has four children: two with her first husband, Tom Cruise, and two with Urban. On the other hand, her sister Antonia Kidman has six children.
Kidman lost her father, Dr. Antony Kidman, in 2014 and her mother a decade later in 2024. Previously, the Babygirl star spoke of her bond with her mother. In an interview with Extra, she said, “My mother was obviously a major guide through my life and probably my compass in terms of everything I did.”
