Actress Nicole Kidman‘s remarks about her divorce from more than two decades ago have resurfaced following her separation from Keith Urban.
Kidman, 58, appeared publicly Wednesday for the first time since filing paperwork to end her 19-year marriage to Urban.
Court documents filed in Davidson County, Tennessee, cite irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split.
During a 2001 interview with Oprah Winfrey, conducted while she was going through her divorce with Tom Cruise, Kidman offered a blunt outlook on marital splits.
“I think that divorce is hard for anyone. It’s a nightmare, it just is, and you can pretend you’re fine. And days you’re great [and] days you’re not great,” she told Winfrey, according to ABC News.
The Australian-born actress was married to Cruise for 11 years, from 1990 to 2001. The former couple adopted two children – Isabella, now 32, and Connor, 30.
“I thought I would always be married,” Kidman confessed during that same 2001 conversation.
Urban, 57, has allegedly relocated from the couple’s past Nashville residence.
At a recent performance, Urban reportedly altered lyrics from a song originally tied to Kidman, substituting the name of his 25-year-old guitarist Maggie Baugh.
The musician changed “When they’re tryna get to you, baby I’ll be the fighter” to “When they’re tryna get to you, Maggie I’ll be your guitar player.”

Baugh posted footage from the concert on Instagram on Sunday with the caption “Did he just say that,” one day before the separation news became public.
A source close to Urban told the Daily Mail his primary concern remains co-parenting his daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14.
“He’s worried about the kids and how they’re going to cope being from a broken home, but he promises he’s going to stay on the wagon for their sake,” the source said.
