EXCLUSIVE: Nigerian distribution outfit Nile Entertainment, which was launched last year by film exec Moses Babatope, has picked up global rights to Remi x Nneoma, a modern adaptation of the biblical story of Ruth and Naomi.

The film tells the story of Nneoma and her daughter-in-law Remi who, after a shared loss, choose to stay together in Ikwerre, Nigeria. As they face grief, societal expectations and the challenges of widowhood, their bond deepens and Remi finds unexpected love, offering both women a chance for a new beginning.

The project is produced by Five 2 Media Entertainment, the outfit behind On the Edge, Full Circle, Xtra Mileand A Night in 2005. Bikiya Graham-Douglas (The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare) stars in the film and is also a producer.

Bisola Aiyeola (Payday), Liz Benson Ameye (Something About the Briggs), Uche Montana (Embers of Love) and Ifeanyi Kalu (Beyond Borders) also star in the film, which has appearances from Eucharia Anunobi, Buchi Franklin, Kunle Coker and Tina Mba.

Lyndsey Efejuki (The One for Sarah) directs the project while Priye Diri and Adelarin Awotedu wrote the script. Solate Ovundah-Akarolo is an executive producer.

“Remi x Nneoma signals a new creative chapter,” said Ovundah-Akarolo. “This project is a testament to how personal journeys, however painful, can become universal stories of courage and connection.”

Graham-Douglas added: “This film is a story about transformation. We wanted to tell a story that challenges outdated norms, champions female agency and reflects the beauty and complexity of real relationships.”

Aiyeola added: “Remi is every woman who has ever had to start over. Her strength doesn’t shout, it builds quietly and steadily. Playing her was a deeply rewarding experience.”

The film is set to premiere nationwide in Nigeria in 2026.
