- Syd Millevoi continued to impress during the Battle Round episode of “The Voice,” advancing to The Knockouts round during a duet with Team Legend teammate Ashley Marina.
- Millevoi is a 23-year-old college student at New Jersey City University, who is earning her master’s degree in vocal performance, and working as a wedding singer.
As if it wasn’t enough to have music icons Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and Adam Levin kvelling over her powehouse performances on national television, one more superstar has weighed in on New Jersey singer Syd Millevoi’s incredible appearances on NBC’s “The Voice.”
And it was none other than actress and singer Hannah Waddingham.
“Ummmm…..ok lady! Magf-ckinNIFicent!” the “Ted Lasso” star wrote in an Instagram story where she reposted Millevoi’s rendition of Jessie J’s “Mamma Knows Best” from the Blind Auditions round.
“Wasn’t that crazy? Oh, my God,” said Millevoi of Secaucus, a 23-year-old college student at New Jersey City University, who is earning her master’s degree in vocal performance, and working as a wedding singer.
“My friend sent it to me, and I said, ‘surely not me.’ I said, ‘this is probably about something else.’ I ran to her page to see that and I was like, ‘okay, no, that’s me on her page.’ How ridiculous is that? She’s one of my favorite actresses,” Millevoi said.
Millevoi continued to impress during the Monday, March 23, Battle Round episode of “The Voice,” advancing to The Knockouts round during a duet with Team Legend teammate Ashley Marina on Mariah Carey’s “Love Takes Time.”
Having to compete against her teammate made the competition come alive, Millevoi said.
“It was a bittersweet situation, because Ashley is phenomenal. She’s really, really amazing, and working with her was a dream … Being able to battle was hard. Moving on was really a high, high, and then watching my friend go home was also really sad,” she said.
Millevoi said facing the judges was harder the second time around, not to mention tackling a Mariah Carey song.
“I was definitely more nervous,” she said. “Even just singing Mariah Carey in your house is a big ask. Having to sing Mariah Carey on national television is a feeling that I never want to feel ever again,” she laughed.
“Not only are you singing it on television, you’re also singing it in front of John Legend, Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine. It’s different singing emotions at a wedding than it is singing on that stage. Definitely 100% more nervous, but I feel like I took that and channeled it and did what I did on that stage.”
She said the effusive praise she’s been getting from the judges acts as motivation.
“It’s a phenomenal compliment, but there is a level of pressure to be able to rise to the occasion every single time I step onto the stage and hopefully not let them down,” she said.
Millevoi has been enjoying watching the episodes air with family and friends by her side.
“It’s literally Super Bowl Sunday every single time an episode airs. Last week we had my grandmother’s friends come over. My grandmother’s like 80 years old and she had all her girlfriends, they’ve been friends forever, and they were all at the house. It’s a really fun time right now.”
Catch Millevoi on Season 29 of “The Voice: Battle of Champions,” airing at 9 p.m Eastern Mondays on NBC, and streaming on Peacock the following day.
