Noah Centineo is set to star in Gundam.
The To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before actor is in talks to join the cast of Legendary’s upcoming live-action adaptation of the Japanese anime opposite Sydney Sweeney, whose involvement was reported earlier this year.
Jim Mickle has written the script and will direct the military sci-fi saga, which has been co-developed by Legendary and franchise owner Bandai Namco Filmworks.
As well as writing and directing, the Sweet Tooth showrunner will also produce with his partner Linda Moran through their company Nightshade.
The plot of the movie is being kept under wraps but production is due to start early next year.
Gundam was first launched in 1979 as a TV series and struggled to gain an audience at first, but it grew in popularity during the 1980s due to a wide variety of adaptations across animated feature films, novels and video games.
The original series takes place in the distant future in what is known as the Universal Century, where human colonies in space fight for independence from Earth. The battles are largely fought through giant robots called Mobile Suits.
Gundam has spanned 83 animated series and movies, and its merchandise arm generates a staggering $600 million annually.
The project was first announced by Legendary Entertainment and Netflix in spring 2021, with Kong: Skull Island filmmaker Jordan Vogt-Roberts at the helm.
However, neither the director or the streaming service are still involved with the live-action Gundam film.
Black Adam actor Noah has just wrapped production on the upcoming Street Fighter film and is also set to appear in Iconoclast, and a Rambo prequel.
The 29-year-old actor will portray a young John Rambo during the Vietnam War in the latter, with production slated on the latest Rambo movie for early 2026 in Thailand.
Jalmari Helander will direct from a screenplay by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, and Lionsgate is said to be the frontrunner to distribute the film.
The Rambo franchise began in 1982 with First Blood, which became a commercial hit despite ambivalent critical reception.
Sylvester Stallone’s Vietnam war veteran returned in four sequels: Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985), Rambo III (1988), Rambo (2008) and Rambo: Last Blood (2019).
The most recent instalment was widely criticised, including by the series’ creator, David Morrell, who wrote First Blood in 1972.
David tweeted on the premiere day of Last Blood: “I agree with these RAMBO: LAST BLOOD reviews. The film is a mess. Embarrassed to have my name associated with it.”
The film followed Rambo as he travelled to Mexico to rescue his friend’s granddaughter from cartel traffickers.
